We are often reminded to stop and smell the roses, but how many of us have ever defined who or what our roses are?
I recently coaching a group of business owners and we did an activity to identify which of the following “roses” are a risk in their lives:
- Career
- Community
- Family
- Finance
- Friends
- Future Planning
- Health
- Network
- Personal Development
- Time
Which do you think were the ones that needed fertilising?
They all had three in common – Family, Health and Personal Development. For one person his action was turning off his phone of an evening so that he could focus on his family, for another it was taking ½ hour a week to go for a run, and for another it was taking 10 minutes each day to practice mindfulness.
So many times we think that the magnificent roses in our lives are Career, Finance or Future Planning.
An adventure in the Kimberley’s for two weeks without contact with the outside world made me appreciate who and what my roses are. Do you? What are your roses? Who are your roses? Do you actually know how to enjoy your roses? Are you fertilising your roses?
Now that Summer is fast approaching, it may be a good time to think about who or what are your roses.
What are your practical tips for identifying who and what are your roses?
